Myspace.com’s UI Dilemma

Since I’m in the business of making interactive applications usable and visually appealing, I have often wondered why Myspace continues to grow despite it being so visually lacking since the web first took off—and I think I have the answer:

Despite its size and popularity, there is no one way to visually describe the Myspace website. It looks exactly as its users would have it look if they created it themselves (ie, they don’t know how to build a site so it just “comes out” looking like it does).

I can’t imagine the owners of Myspace remaining this naive about its brand in the near future and predict that when they undertake creating an actual brand for it, the users would leave in favor of some other un-corporate setting.
